Logo Design

From Wikipedia
Logo is a term used to refer to a graphic symbol or emblem commonly employed by commercial enterprises, organizations and even individuals to aid and promote instant public recognition. Today there are many corporations, products, brands, services, agencies and other entities using an ideogram (sign, icon) or an emblem (symbol) or a combination of sign and emblem as a logo. As a result, only a few of the thousands of ideograms people see are recognized without a name. It is sensible to use an ideogram as a logo, even with the name, if people will not duly identify it.”

A well-designed logo should inspire customer confidence by creating an emotional response to the visual representation of your business. A logo gives your business an identity in the market and is as important as the business name itself.

Logo design is an important area of graphic design, the logo or ideogram, is the image embodying an organization. Because logos are meant to represent companies’ brands or corporate identities and foster their immediate customer recognition, it is counterproductive to frequently redesign logos.

Have you ever heard the phrase “if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck…?” The same is true for business – a professional logo lets you walk like a “duck”…or in this case, walk like a much bigger company than you actually may be. In today’s world, consumers seek credibility. But how do you offer credibility if they have never heard of your company…. by appearing credible and following through with those expectations.

The importance of a proper professional business logo or “Brand” can be paramount. It can be the deciding factor in your potential customers decision, the final thing that gave them the level of comfort necessary to make a purchase.

Past and Present

The importance of logos has been understood for many centuries now. Think back to the medieval times when royal families and their knights would wear a coat of arms to establish their family or upbringing. Or how about coins from any period of time, the markings on these coins were logos of the kingdom that coined them. These images were used to associate the individual or currency to the group of people or kingdom readily and easily.

The same stands true today. Often a company logo is synonymous with its trademark or brand. The colors and outlines of a specific logo can be recognized from afar. Who hears the word Nike and doesn’t see the “Swoosh” or the other way around. How about Geiko and their lizard, could there be a better example than the lovable gecko from Geiko, this lizard has inspired comfortable and likable feelings in millions for many years. It is vital that the logo be uniquely creative for the identification of the business vs. a typical typecast logo.

From Encyclopedia Britannica

“Sometimes graphic design is called “visual communications.” It is a collaborative discipline: writers produce words and photographers and illustrators create images that the designer incorporates into a complete visual message. Although graphic design has been practiced in various forms throughout history, it emerged as a specific profession during the job-specialization process that occurred in the late 19th century. Its evolution has been closely bound to developments in image making, typography, and reproduction processes.”
